There are several major systems for classifying common membranes, such as material, structure, shape, separation mechanism, separation process, pore size, etc. Familiar ones include inorganic membranes, flat membranes, reverse osmosis membranes, nanofiltration membranes, microfiltration membranes, etc., some of which are actually in different categories.

 

Tubular membrane is a type of membrane product classified by shape, which is connected to flat membrane, roll membrane, hollow fiber membrane, etc.

 

Generally speaking, tubular membrane modules have a simple structure, strong adaptability, easy cleaning, and good high pressure resistance, making them suitable for ultrafiltration and microfiltration. In terms of its characteristics, compared to ceramic membranes, flat membranes, and hollow fiber membranes, it has higher strength, pollution resistance, blockage resistance, membrane life, and water production stability, and is on par with ceramic membranes. However, the investment in tubular membranes is smaller than that in ceramic membranes.

 

That's also why the industry's attention to tubular membranes is increasing nowadays.

 

From the perspective of application scope, tubular membranes are not inferior either. Including the current challenging treatment of leachate from garbage, the treatment of special chemical wastewater with high difficulty, as well as the recognized complex conditions of food wastewater treatment and biopharmaceutical fermentation liquid filtration, the application cases of tubular membranes are increasing.

As early as 2011, China's tubular membrane production base was built in Wuhan. At that time, personnel from the China Environmental Protection Industry Association stated that the tubular composite membrane technology was basically in the hands of two developed countries, the United States and Germany, and the market was in short supply, with high prices. However, tubular membranes have strong practicality and obvious advantages in areas such as high difficulty wastewater, oils, and chemicals.

 

Therefore, the construction of a tubular membrane production base is of great significance.

 

Up to now, the application of tubular membranes has become increasingly mature. Alkali resistant tubular membranes not only achieve hardness removal and filtration, but also silicon removal, solving a major problem in deep sewage treatment. However, in terms of craftsmanship, materials, and application, there is still great room for improvement in the development of tubular membranes in China.
