The service life of a membrane not only refers to the absence of mechanical damage to the membrane, but more importantly, it refers to the effective filtration time of the membrane, that is, the time it reaches the desired filtration rate (when the filtration rate is lower than this, a new membrane is replaced).

Ceramic membranes have received increasing attention due to their excellent performance and wide range of applications. Everyone knows that ceramic membranes have advantages such as structural stability, high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, high separation efficiency, high mechanical strength, and long mechanical service life. But if used improperly or incorrectly, it will greatly reduce its service life. Therefore, ceramic film should be used correctly during mechanical operation. The correct use of membranes should be divided into three steps: handle with care before use - avoid air entering during use - clean promptly after use.

The materials of ceramic film include three types: zirconia, alumina, and titanium dioxide. When installing and handling film tubes, collision and vibration should be avoided as much as possible, and the packaging box for handling film tubes should support the bottom. Before use, carefully inspect for any damage. Inspection method: Place the membrane tube vertically, block the lower end, fill each channel with water from the upper end, and observe whether there is any abnormal leakage on the outer surface of the membrane tube. If there is abnormal leakage, it indicates that the membrane tube is damaged and cannot be used.

When in use, to prevent damage to the membrane tube, unstable flow (water flow impact), gas-liquid mixing, vibration, and pump idling should be avoided; The liquid level of the raw material tank should be higher than the inlet position of the pump to avoid causing the pump to suck in air; No air is allowed to enter the membrane filtration system during startup and production. Due to the use of different specifications of ceramic membranes for different raw material liquids, the corresponding membrane should be replaced according to the different liquid materials during use.

After shutdown, the medium in the system should be emptied and the membrane should be cleaned. The membrane used for the first time or not used for a long time (more than 48 hours) needs to be cleaned by cycling. The method is: alkaline washing: wash with NaOH solution at a temperature of 80 ℃ and a concentration of 15-20g/l for 30 minutes, then rinse with water until neutral; Acid washing: Clean with 58% HNO3 solution at a temperature of 50 ℃ and a concentration of 5ml/l for 15 minutes, then rinse with water until neutral.

The regeneration method of the membrane is the foundation for achieving long-term operation. According to the characteristics of ceramic membranes, three in-situ regeneration methods can be adopted: front flushing with clean water, front flushing with slurry, and back flushing with clean water.
